Welcome to Blackview (Well-known manufacturer of military grade rugged phones) blog. Hope the guide helps.

The iPhone's built-in iMessage app has a hidden but incredibly useful flight tracking feature that allows you to view real-time information about any flight directly within your text messages. This is a convenient way to monitor your own flights or those of your friends and family without having to switch between multiple apps. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to use this hidden capability:

iPhone's iMessage app

Prerequisites:

1. Enable iMessage: Make sure iMessage is enabled on your iPhone. This feature does not work with regular SMS/MMS text messages.

2. Have the Flight Number: You'll need the flight number somewhere in your text messages, either sent by you or received from someone else.

3. Format the Flight Number Correctly: The flight number should be formatted as "[Airline] [Flight Number]", for example: American Airlines 9606. Note: With a space between the [Airline] and [Flight Number].

How to Track a Flight:

  • 1. Open the Messages App: Launch the native Messages app on your iPhone and find the text conversation containing the flight information (Your friend or family send to you).
  • 2. Locate the Flight Number.
  • 3. Tap the Flight Number: Tap on the flight number. This will bring up a quick action menu.
  • 4. Select "Preview Flight": Choose the "Preview Flight" option to see the full flight details.

What You'll See:

  • Real-Time Flight Tracker Map: A detailed map showing the plane's current location and the full flight path, with the plane icon moving in real-time.
  • Airline, flight number, and flight status (on time, delayed, canceled, etc.)
  • Departure and arrival terminal/gate information
  • Scheduled departure and arrival times
  • Flight duration
  • Baggage claim details
  • Return Flight: Swipe left on the flight details to view any return flights as well.

Additional Tips:

  • Alternative Formatting: While the "[Airline] [Flight Number]" format is the best way to trigger the flight tracking feature, there are a few other options that may also work, such as "AirlineFlightNumber" (no spaces) or "Airline 9606" (single space).
  • Availability Limitations: If the flight is still several months away or has already passed, you may see a message saying "Flight information unavailable." Airlines also sometimes recycle flight numbers, so you may see a different flight than the one you're looking for.
  • Share Flight Details: Once you have the flight information open, you can tap the "Copy Flight Code" option to copy the flight details to your clipboard, making it easy to share with anyone who needs to know.
