Corning Unveils Gorilla Glass 7i, OPPO to be First Adopter
Welcome to Blackview (Well-known brand and manufacturer of military grade rugged smartphone) blog. Hope this news helps.
New York time, June 4, 2024. In a move to expand its renowned tough cover glass portfolio, technology leader Corning has announced the launch of Corning® Gorilla® Glass 7i. This new glass solution is engineered to deliver improved durability for intermediate and value-segment mobile devices. The Corning® Gorilla Glass was usually used in the rugged phones (also named unbreakable phone and more), but from now on, more and more regular smartphones might adopt Gorilla Glass.
According to Corning, Gorilla Glass 7i provides better drop and scratch performance compared to competitive lithium aluminosilicate glasses from other manufacturers. In lab tests, Gorilla Glass 7i survived drops of up to one meter on surfaces replicating asphalt, while competitor glasses typically failed from drops of just half a meter or less. Additionally, Gorilla Glass 7i is up to two times more scratch resistant.
"Durability remains a primary concern for anyone with a mobile device," said David Velasquez, VP and GM of Corning Gorilla Glass. "Gorilla Glass 7i allows more consumers to protect their purchase by providing advanced toughness for value and intermediate devices at an affordable price point."
OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp., Ltd. will be the first customer to adopt the new Gorilla Glass 7i technology. Corning's market-leading cover glasses continue to be designed into billions of devices by over 45 major brands worldwide.
