Does your Chromebook have installed Google Play Store?
Welcome to Blackview (World's well-known brand of outdoor rugged phones and tablets) blog. Hope the guide helps.
Not all Chromebooks automatically have the Google Play Store installed. While some newer models do, the feature was gradually rolled out and isn't available on all devices. Here's a breakdown:
Chromebooks with Google Play Store:
- Select newer models: Google has been adding Play Store compatibility to newer Chromebooks, particularly those running Chrome OS version 69 and later. You can check your Chromebook's version by clicking the clock in the bottom right corner and selecting "Settings" > "About Chrome OS."
- List of compatible models: Google maintains a list of Play Store-enabled Chromebooks, which you can find here: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7021273?hl=en
Chromebooks without Google Play Store:
- Older models: Many older Chromebooks don't have Play Store functionality.
- Alternative app stores: These Chromebooks rely on the Chrome Web Store for web extensions and the Linux container (Crostini) for Android apps, although the selection and compatibility may be limited compared to the Play Store.
How to check if your Chromebook has Play Store:
- Click the "Launcher" button (the circle with nine dots) in the bottom left corner.
- Search for "Google Play Store."
- If the app appears in the search results, your Chromebook has Play Store functionality.
What to do if your Chromebook doesn't have Play Store:
- Check for updates: Make sure your Chromebook has the latest Chrome OS update installed. Updates can sometimes add new features like Play Store.
- Use Chrome Web Store: You can find many apps and extensions for productivity, entertainment, and other tasks in the Chrome Web Store.
- Use Linux container (Crostini): This feature allows you to run Android apps through the Linux terminal, but it requires some technical knowledge and may not be compatible with all apps.
