Can you share WiFi to other devices from your laptop?
Welcome to Blackview blog. Hope the guide helps.
It depends. Some of the laptops with WiFi come with feature of hotspot sharing, thus, you can share your laptop's WiFi connection with other devices. Here are the typical steps to do this:
1. Make sure your notebook is connected to an available WiFi network. The mobile hotspot will display available only while the laptop has connected a Wi-Fi.
2. For different operating system:
On Windows 10/11:
- Go to "Settings" > "Network & Internet" > Find "Mobile hotspot" option.
- Turn on the "Share my Internet connection" option.
- You can see there is a default network name and password, you can click 'edit' to change them for your need. Note: Remember them, as you need to type them when connect other devices to the laptop wifi.
- Suggesting use a simple network name and a strong password.
On macOS:
- Go to System Preferences > Sharing.
- Check the "Internet Sharing" box.
- Choose the Internet connection you want to share (usually "WiFi") in the "Share your connection from" dropdown.
- Select the devices you want to share the connection with in the "To computers using" section.
3. Once enabled, other devices can now connect to your laptop's WiFi hotspot by searching for the network name you set and entering the password.
This allows you to share your laptop's internet connection with smartphones, rugged phones, tablets, or other laptops, which can be handy in situations where you need to provide internet access to multiple devices. Just keep in mind that sharing your laptop's WiFi may consume more of your device's battery and data plan, if applicable.
